Terms of service

These terms set out the agreement between you and Sayella when you use the app or this website. We have kept them short and readable, because terms you cannot understand are not really terms at all.

Draft last updated 15 June 2026.

Draft for review

This is a plain-English working draft, not final legal text. It will be reviewed by a qualified person before Sayella launches. Please do not rely on it as the definitive policy.

The agreement

By creating an account or using Sayella, you agree to these terms. If you are setting Sayella up for someone else, such as a child or a person you support, you accept these terms on their behalf. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Your account

  • You are responsible for keeping your login details safe and for activity on your account.
  • Accounts and billing are intended to be managed by an adult on behalf of the communicator.
  • Please give accurate information and keep it up to date so we can support you.

Plans, payment and our promises

Sayella has a free tier, paid subscriptions and a one-off lifetime option. Current prices are shown on the pricing page. Two commitments are part of this agreement, not marketing:

  • Speech is never disabled. The ability to speak is available on the free tier, works offline, and is not switched off if a subscription lapses.
  • A lifetime option always exists. There is always a non-subscription way to own Sayella.
  • Subscriptions renew until cancelled. You can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Where the law gives you a right to a refund or a cooling-off period, that right applies in addition to anything here.

Your content stays yours

The boards, words, symbols and photos you create remain yours. You grant us only the limited permission needed to store, sync and display that content so the app can work for you. You can export your content in Open Board Format at any time, and delete it.

Acceptable use

When using Sayella, please do not:

  • Break the law or infringe someone else's rights.
  • Attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service.
  • Upload content you do not have the right to use, or anything unlawful.
  • Resell or redistribute the service except as expressly permitted by your licence.

Our intellectual property and symbols

The Sayella name, app and website are owned by us or our licensors. Sayella includes Mulberry Symbols, used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence, and an in-house AI symbol style. Symbol attributions are shown where symbols appear.

Availability and changes

We work hard to keep Sayella running, and core talking is designed to work offline so a lost connection never silences anyone. We may update the app and these terms over time. If we make a significant change to the terms, we will give reasonable notice.

Liability

Sayella is provided with reasonable care and skill. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.

Ending the agreement

You can stop using Sayella and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, after notice where it is reasonable to give it. If we ever stop offering the service, we will give notice and a way to export your content first.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections in your home country. Questions about these terms are welcome.
